The story could have been very different for Harry Kane. In 2013, when he struggled to establish himself at Tottenham after two unconvincing loans at Norwich and Leicester, the English striker was very close to joining Livorno. President Aldo Spinelli even tried to cover his tracks by distorting his name on the phone with journalists. “We’re trying to recruit a certain “Kanne”, “Kenna”… something like that. He is twenty years old and plays in England »he would have said. The sporting director at the time, Stefano Capozucca, confirmed that the Italian club had considered a loan with an option to buy, for around 500,000 euros, before the operation fell through.

Nearly 13 years later, Kane has become one of the best center forwards in the world. After scoring 280 goals in 450 matches with Tottenham, the England international joined Bayern Munich in 2023, where he boasts impressive statistics with 156 goals in 158 matches. A trajectory which could have taken a very different turn if Livorno had managed to complete its arrival. Instead, the Italian club finally recruited Innocent Emeghara, author of seven goals in six months in Siena.
