Cristian Tello hangs up his crampons. At 35, the former FC Barcelona winger announced this Monday that he was ending his professional career, after 512 matches played. Trained at La Masia, the Spaniard will have notably worn the jerseys of Barça, FC Porto, Fiorentina, Betis, Sevilla FC, Los Angeles FC, before a final experience at Palm City FC, in the United Arab Emirates. With Barcelona, he scored 21 goals and won several trophies during a rich career, including La Liga with Barça, the Copa del Rey with Betis and the MLS. He also has a selection with Spain, obtained in 2013.
When saying goodbye, Tello delivered a particularly moving message on his social networks: “ Today it’s time to say goodbye to a part of my life. After so many years, so many matches, so many locker rooms, so much joy and also difficult moments, the time has come to put an end to professional football. Football gave me everything. It has allowed me to realize dreams that once seemed impossible, to meet people I will keep with me forever, and to experience moments that will stay with me for the rest of my life. I had the chance to wear jerseys that mean a lot to me and to share this journey with teammates, coaches, club staff, friends and, above all, my family. To everyone who has ever encouraged me, supported me, criticized me, or simply been there: thank you. From the bottom of my heart. I leave with the peace of mind of knowing that I gave everything for this sport and with immense pride for the journey I have come.
