The big loser of the transfer window is him. This summer, Julian Alvarez got wet to join FC Barcelona. In the middle of the 2026 World Cup, the striker publicly expressed his desire to leave Atlético de Madrid to sign for the club of his dreams. If he did not name Barça, everyone was quite clear on the fact that the Spider wanted to go to Catalonia. But that was without counting on the Colchoneros. Despite the attempts of Barça, who made several proposals sometimes even going beyond €100 million, the Madrilenians remained firm and solid in their support.

The Camp Nou residents, determined to recruit him, continued to push behind the scenes, helped by the player and his agents. Back in the capital after the World Cup and his vacation, Julian Alvarez was able to speak with Diego Simeone and his management. Here again, the message was clear. The door was not open for Barça. On the other hand, Atlético did not have the same position with foreign teams, notably Arsenal. At the end of the transfer window, Manchester City would also have tried an approach to repatriate him. But the player only had Barça in mind.

Barca keep money aside for Alvarez

Same thing for the Spanish club, which even declared itself publicly through the voice of Joan Laporta. “We are still very interested in Julián Álvarez. We want our offer to be accepted. We want to act with the greatest respect. Let Atlético Madrid know that if they are willing to sell Julián Álvarez this summer, we would be willing to buy him.” An attempt which did not bear fruit. Julian Alvarez remained in Madrid. Meanwhile, Barça got their hands on Gabriel Jesus to strengthen their offensive sector, depopulated after the departures of Ferran Torres (PSG), Marcus Rashford (MU) and Robert Lewandowski (Chicago). Despite this, FCB does not forget Julian Alvarez.

This Wednesday, the Cadena SER reveals that the Barcelonans will return to the charge for the Argentinian during the next transfer windows. In fact, they are keeping a large sum aside to try their luck again and make an XXL offer, having only dropped €10 million for Gabriel Jesus. Concerning Alvarez, journalist Santi Ovalle, who revealed that Barça had gone up to €130 million, specified: “They will therefore return to the charge during the next transfer window. Barça saved the money they planned to spend on a top striker. No other player on the market has convinced them. The club plans to return to the charge during the next transfer windows. For his part, the player, who has made it known that he only wants to sign with Barça, will have to wait before making another attempt. It remains to be seen whether Atlético will soften its stance or not. El Chiringuito also reports that the Colchoneros had asked the player to make an offer of €150 million to let him go. Barça knows the price to pay.
