PSG now knows the sanction imposed on Nuno Mendes after his expulsion during the Champions Trophy against RC Lens. While the Parisians lost 1-0, the match was notably marked in the 87th minute by the direct expulsion of the Portuguese full-back. Nuno Mendes was penalized for an elbow on Michal Skoras, a new decision by referee Jérémie Pignard which caused the final whistle to speak.
In recent days, RMC Sport had provided new elements concerning this exclusion. According to the media, the report written by Jérémie Pignard after the meeting was particularly harsh against Nuno Mendes. PSG was able to read it and would even have been surprised by its content. The referee notably described the Portuguese’s gesture as a “violent blow outside the game”, a wording which suggested a significant sanction from the LFP disciplinary committee.
Three matches for Nuno Mendes
The sentence finally fell this Wednesday. The LFP disciplinary committee has decided to impose a three-match firm suspension on Nuno Mendes, who had never been sent off with PSG before. A heavy sanction for the Parisian defender, who will therefore miss the first three Ligue 1 matches. We would find him during the 4th day when PSG travels to Brest (Sunday September 13). The LFP press release also specifies that Kyllian Antonio, RC Lens player, received two matches of firm suspension.
