The French team now knows its opponent. At the end of the last matches in Group H, the Blues will face Sweden in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at 11 p.m. in New York. The evening’s results definitely clarified the picture: Spain’s victory against Uruguay (1-0) and the draw between Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia (0-0) not only validated several qualifications, but also fixed the identity of the opponent for Didier Deschamps’ men.

Sweden was already assured of finishing among the best thirds after its precious draw against Japan (1-1). The elimination of Uruguay, who could still claim qualification via this ranking, definitively assured the Scandinavians’ place in the knockout phase. The Blues will therefore find a Swedish selection to launch their campaign in decisive matches with a ticket to the round of 16 at stake.
