AC Milan won the Madonnina derby against Inter (3-1), inflicting their first defeat of the season in Serie A on the leader. Fifth before the match and beaten on Wednesday by Bologna (2-4), Ruben Amorim’s men reacted perfectly against the Nerazzurri who were still undefeated in the league. The Rossoneri struck in the 4th minute thanks to Christian Pulisic, perfectly served by Diego Moreira, before doubling the lead five minutes later. On a quickly played corner, the Belgian found Adrien Rabiot, whose dived ball ended its journey into the back of the net with the help of the post (2-0, 9th). After this difficult start, Inter regained control of the game and reduced the gap through Alessandro Bastoni, alone at point blank range after a header from Akanji (2-1, 21st). The visitors even came close to equalizing in the 33rd minute, but Mike Maignan made an exceptional save in front of Djed Spence. However, just before the break, Diego Moreira scored a superb free kick with his left foot to restore his team’s two-goal lead (3-1, 43rd). A dream first period for the Belgian, author of a goal and two assists.
The second half was much less lively, with the Milan team more focused on defending their advantage. Solid and well organized, the Rossoneri resisted the Interist offensives without really trying to project themselves. AC Milan only attempted two shots after the break, including one on target, while Inter, despite ten attempts, only found the target three times. A defensive efficiency which allowed Ruben Amorim’s men to maintain their lead until the final whistle. Thanks to this success, AC Milan climbs to fourth place in Serie A, while Inter loses its leadership position and falls to second place. The Rossoneri will host Ferencváros on Thursday in the Europa League, while the Nerazzurri will travel to Feyenoord in the Champions League.
