Absent from the 2026 World Cup with the French team, Corentin Tolisso spoke about his non-call-up at a press conference this Wednesday.

While the French team is having a faultless run at the 2026 World Cup, those absent from Didier Deschamps’ list have returned to training with their club and are already preparing for the upcoming 2026-2027 season. Author of a very good season with theOlympique Lyonnais, Corentin Tolisso
could have been one of the 26 players called up for this American World Cup, but was ultimately not selected.

Tolisso absent

An absence which had created numerous debates, especially since the Blues only have five midfielders (excluding attacking midfielder) in their ranks. World champion in 2018, the Lyon midfielder seems to have digested the news. Starting for the first friendly match of Les Gones (won 5-2 against Macon), the 31-year-old player immediately formalized the extension of his contract with the Rhone club until 2029.

“I digested”

Asked about his non-call-up for the World Cup, he recounted the sequence of events as he experienced them.
“I digested it very quickly, I was able to go on vacation with my family and friends, I told myself that in the end, maybe it was a blessing in disguise”he indicated.
“I don’t know how many matches I would have played if I had been in the selection, I might not have played, but I would not have rested with training. »

A busy schedule with OL

While the season promises to be busy for OL with one or two preliminary rounds of the Champions League to be played in August, the Lyon captain is relishing the fact of having been able to rest. “I was able to rest, have my 6 weeks of vacation, I have very important deadlines with my club, OL, today is the most important. In the end, it’s destiny. If I shouldn’t go, then I shouldn’t go. It allowed me to rest and to be, I hope, efficient and ready for the first play-off match at the beginning of August”he added.
