Yan Diomandé has decided. Yesterday, several media, including The Athleticrevealed that the 19-year-old Ivorian has chosen to join Paris Saint-Germain. A terrible snub for Liverpool, who had made a first offer of around €100 million for the player. The Reds intended to come back but they were overtaken by Paris, which therefore has the favor of the main interested party. And if the residents of the Parc des Princes are rather confident about this issue as we have explained to you, nothing has yet been done. Especially since it will be necessary to convince RB Leipzig, who remains solid on his support for the moment.
Leipzig announces that Diomandé will stay
And the German club intends to stay that way. This is the message conveyed by sports director Marcel Schäfer to Bild. “Our intention is clear: Yan Diomandé will play for RB Leipzig next year. And we will not compromise on that! We know its value. Certainly, if Yan continues on this path, the time will come to allow him to take a new step, but not this year. The German leader then said more about the strategy that Leipzig intends to adopt with its player.
“In principle, we have a four-year contract and we keep control. These current developments are therefore above all a recognition of its performances. No more, no less. And if we don’t find a solution, well too bad, but he has four years left on his contract. So I repeat: Yan Diomandé will remain a Leipzig player.” But when it comes to the transfer window, today’s truth is not necessarily tomorrow’s. A big offer could perhaps make the Germans flinch. But this is not the case, as the Leipzig leader assures. “Our position (concerning an offer which would impose a sale) is very clear on this subject, yes”.
Paris is warned
However, the Bundesliga team must sell this summer. Bild evokes more than €100 million in sales. “I would not confirm this figure. But the fact that we have to generate income through transfers is not new. This is, of course, partly due to the fact that our other sources of income have not yet reached a level that allows us to do without transfer revenues. We also believe we are well placed to achieve our objectives, without Yan Diomande needing to leave.”
Finally, Bild concluded by asking if PSG contacted him for the Ivorian. “I’m currently in contact with — I feel like — 80% of our players’ agents. It’s part of the job. Especially when there is a coaching change, agents and coaches want to know a little more. But it is true that there is a lot of interest in Yan, which is also testament to his exceptional performances last year and the immense potential he still possesses.” Leipzig therefore closes the door to the departure of Yan Diomandé. There is no doubt that PSG will have arguments to try to achieve their goals.
