Several accents navigate Spain and the Andalusian accent is that of Fabián Ruiz. The Spanish international, trained at Real Betis and playing at PSG under Luis Enrique, recently left France to participate in the 2026 World Cup with La Roja. However, he seems to be one of the footballers who remains attached to his roots. In a documentary called “Denomination of Origin”, broadcast earlier this week on TVEa controversy surfaced following his accent, particularly that of his mother.
Fabián Ruiz’s mother appeared in the documentary and on his show The 1, TVE chose to subtitle the words of Chari Peña, the midfielder’s mother. This Wednesday, Ruiz therefore took the time to criticize the channel during an interview given to DAZN. “I wanted to clarify that if anyone watching the interview doesn’t understand me, you can turn on the subtitles for my Andalusian accent if you wish”. The journalist who interviewed Ruiz played along, saying he understood perfectly.
