Didier Deschamps is living his last weeks with the France team. Fourteen years after his appointment as head of the Blues, the coach will leave office this summer and is preparing to take on a final challenge, and not the least: winning the third World Cup in the nation’s history.
To achieve this, “DD” and the players intend to prepare as best as possible, with two friendly matches, against Ivory Coast (Thursday, 9:10 p.m.) and Northern Ireland (Monday, 9:10 p.m.), before flying to the United States to face Senegal (June 16), Iraq (June 22) and Norway (June 26) in Group I.
Once the competition is over, everything suggests that Zinedine Zidane should succeed Didier Deschamps and will return to service five years after his last appearance on the sidelines. But regardless of the identity of his successor, the current coach wanted to send him a message.
Didier Deschamps: “My successor should ask me”
In an interview with Ouest-France, the ex-Nantes player answered a question from one of the former Canaries coaches Raynald Denoueix. “Are you planning a handover meeting with your successor? », asks the 78-year-old man.
Deschamps’ response: “ Transmission is important. I know what Raynald means: give back what you’ve been given. My successor should ask me already. It’s not up to me to take the step. I stay in my place. Rudi Garcia asked me before taking Belgium. Until now he had only managed clubs. I spoke with him with great pleasure.
