The list unveiled this Friday by Thomas Tuchel for the 2026 World Cup confirmed several surprises in England.

Already since Thursday, there was a lot of turmoil around the English national team. While Thomas Tuchel had not yet revealed his list for the 2026 World Cup, Harry Maguire let it slip that he had not been called up. This Friday, the Threer Lions coach made the identity of the 26 players selected official. And indeed, there are surprises.

And even one or two big ones. The confirmed absence of Harry Maguire is one. Having returned to an international level this season with Manchester United, the 33-year-old defender could clearly hope to have his place. Thomas Tuchel decided otherwise, preferring for example to integrate Jarell Quansah (Bayer Leverkusen) or even John Stones (Manchester City).

Another twist, the absence of Cole Palmer (Chelsea), although luminous with England during Euro 2024 punctuated by a finalist place. To a lesser extent, the non-selection of a Phil Foden (Manchester City) on alternating current is also causing a lot of talk on the other side of the Channel.

Thomas Tuchel, the strong choices

As for Trent Alexander-Arnold (Real Madrid), left out for this 2026 World Cup, there is less disagreement. As for those present, it is notably the case of Ivan Toney who is talking, even if the Al-Ahli striker has scored 42 goals in 49 matches this season.

For the rest, Thomas Tuchel will be able to count on many sure values, starting with Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), without forgetting Declan Rice (Arsenal) and Marc Guéhi (Manchester City). Finally, note that Marcus Rashford (FC Barcelona) will be there.
