An FC Barcelona executive felt a physical problem against Sevilla on Sunday, a few weeks before the start of the 2026 World Cup.

With just over three weeks until the start of the 2026 World Cup, any player injury becomes a source of great concern. This Monday, they are heading towards Fermin Lopez in Catalonia. Established during the success against Sevilla FC on Sunday (3-1), the FC Barcelona striker was forced to give up his place at the start of the second half of the match.

While Barça was quietly leading at the break (1-0) thanks to a goal from the returning Raphinha, the number 16 felt discomfort after a blow to the right foot, forcing his coach Hansi Flick to replace him with Alejandro Balde after returning from the locker room.

According to information from Mundo Deportivoit is more precisely a problem at the level of the fifth metatarsal. The same one that bothered a certain Neymar for long seasons during his time at Paris Saint-Germain. The Brazilian fractured it in 2018.

Fermin Lopez soon fixed

Fermin Lopez is currently being examined by the Barcelona staff to determine the seriousness of the problem. In the event of a fracture – and the risk does indeed exist – participation in the next World Cup with La Roja would be seriously compromised for the 23-year-old player.

If it is a minor injury, the Spaniard will then have to wait for the announcement of the list from coach Luis de la Fuente, scheduled for Monday May 25. As a reminder, Spain will face Cape Verde (June 15), Saudi Arabia (June 21) and Uruguay (June 27) for Group H.
