This Sunday afternoon, the Premier League offered us a 37th day in which many teams were positioned in the soft underbelly of the table. In its race for Europe, Brentford notably hosted Crystal Palace in London. In 8th place in the championship, qualifying for the next Conference League, the Bees had to obtain a result. Opposite, Crystal Palace, 15th, could hope for nothing at the end of the championship. The Eagles seemed fully invested in recent weeks, but their Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano was also on people’s minds. However, it was without trembling that Ismaila Sarr’s teammates opened the scoring, thanks to a penalty from the Senegalese (0-1, 6th). Well on their feet, the locals equalized just before the break. Lucky after a poor dismissal from the opposing defense, it was Dango Ouattara who put his team back on the right path (1-1, 40th). Then, Adam Wharton enhanced the start of the second period with Palace (1-2, 52nd). After a throw-in, Ouatarra scored a double, and this time, with a header (2-2, 88th). All things considered, Brentford is stagnating in 8th position, just like the men in blue, still 15th.
In the other matches of this multiplex, Everton (10th) challenged Sunderland (12th). The Toffees, who were playing at home, were five games without a win and had nothing left to play for. Slowly paced during the first period, the game still made Rohl happy, author of the opener (43rd). The Dutchman Brobbey scored 1-1 (59th), Le Fee added the second goal and Isidor crushed his opponents (90+1th). Leeds had ensured their maintenance and could approach their meeting against Brigthon while being released. However, Danny Welbeck’s teammates were fully committed to the race for Europe and wanted to win. Fabian Hürzeler’s players, 7th, thought they would get a result, but it was ultimately Calvert-Lewin who disgusted the visitors, scoring the winning goal (90+6). Finally, Wolves, 15 points behind the first non-relegation place, faced 12th, Fulham. Well on their way to the Championship next season, the bottom team nevertheless opened the scoring thanks to Mane (25th). However, Robinson equalized from the penalty spot before the break (45+3). Everton loses one place to 11th, Sunderland gains two. Leeds are 13th, Brigthon loses big away. Wolverhampton and Fulham are stagnating in the same positions.
