Last Sunday in TéléfootCorentin Tolisso claimed to be having the best season of his career as a professional. Author of an exceptional year in the colors of OL (38 matches, 15 goals, 6 assists), the 2018 world champion was patiently waiting to make his return to the Blues, more than five years after his last selection. His turn did not come in March, nor in May in the end.

This Thursday, Didier Deschamps unveiled his 70th and final list at the head of the France team, and the coach chose to structure his list around 5 midfielders: Aurélien Tchouameni, Warren Zaire-Emery, Manu Koné, N’Golo Kanté and Adrien Rabiot. The absence of Eduardo Camavinga – often called up despite a complicated year at all levels – may have created a surprise for some, but that of Tolisso rather aroused a feeling of incomprehension, even if it was predictable given the latest lists.

Tolisso will have to wait for the arrival of the future coach to find the Blues

I saw him with pleasure at the UNFP trophiessaid Didier Deschamps at a press conference following the announcement. He’s having a very, very good season. It’s not because he’s from Lyon, or that Thauvin is from Lens, that I’m not going to take them. Of all the players I have selected, I believe that Lyon is the second club from which I have taken the most», recalled Deschamps.

“He was led to project himself, to play high point, even center forward. He is less accustomed to playing in this double pivot role. The fact that there are 5 midfielders who are indisputable (Tchouameni, Koné, Rabiot, Zaire-Emery, Kant), that plays a role. If there had been 6, there would have been one more possibility. That he is disappointed this evening, I understand and he would have deserved to be there, like others. The 31-year-old midfielder will have to wait for the arrival of the future coach to perhaps reconnect the thread of his history with the France team.
