This Thursday, Didier Deschamps unveiled his list for the 2026 World Cup. The coach of the France team notably called up Theo Hernandez as left back. The Al-Hilal player recently caused a scandal on social networks with a video showing him at a party in good company and consuming laughing gas with friends of his. Asked about this, the coach brushed it off by explaining that the events took place six years ago.
“It is not from yesterday or the day before yesterday. I’m not connected, but I talked to him about it at the time obviously. It’s not 2 or 3 months ago. Some are surprised, I actually received the video, I said to myself it’s old, I assure you it’s 2020. That’s his private life. No one is exemplary, but making sure to set a good example is not that Theo doesn’t have to do that. It’s filmed, without his knowledge or not, the person who put it there doesn’t blame him. Théo is calm and for me it is something that is very far away“, he declared at a press conference.
