UEFA announced this Monday the names of the referees for the European finals which will take place by the end of the month. And for PSG-Arsenal which awaits us in the Champions League, we know who will be in charge of the match.
For this major event, Daniel Siebert was appointed. The 42-year-old German referee probably has the opportunity to officiate the biggest match of his career.
This choice could raise eyebrows on the Parisian side. On the one hand because the appointment of a German referee, after such a disputed clash between Bayern Munich and PSG, may raise questions.
Arsenal-Atlético, the big controversy
On the other hand, Mr. Siebert comes out of a semi-final return between Arsenal and Atlético (1-0) where some controversial decisions were taken. The most commented on? This penalty not whistled on Antoine Griezmann. On this action, the German referee first whistled an unclear foul on Gabriel Magalhaes, which may have prevented the VAR from returning to the contact involving Griezmann.
Obviously, Mr. Siebert is very well regarded by UEFA, since this final will be his 10th Champions League match of the season. After leading Bilbao-PSG (0-0) in the group stage, he was on deck in the play-offs (Bodo/Glimt-Inter), in the round of 16 (Tottenham-Atlético), in the quarters (Sporting-Arsenal) and therefore in the semis (Arsenal-Atlético).
