Liverpool and Chelsea are not doing much better. Continuing a disappointing season, the Reds and Blues drew this Saturday at Anfield (1-1), a result that doesn’t really please anyone. Liverpool misses the opportunity to secure their place in C1 and misses an opportunity to please their supporters. Chelsea end a dreadful run of six consecutive defeats in the Premier League, but this point will not carry much weight in the race for Europe.
Under a beautiful sun, and despite the absences in the offensive sector (Ekitiké, Salah, Isak…), Liverpool gave the impression of a great afternoon, with the nice opening goal from Ryan Gravenberch (1-0, 6th). But the Reds quickly stopped playing and it was quite logical that Chelsea equalized with a free kick (and a bit lucky) from Enzo Fernandez (1-1, 35th).
Ngumoha, the only thrill
The reigning champions came close to being penalized with a goal denied to Cole Palmer (49th), and one of the few reasons to be enthusiastic is the enthusiasm of young winger Rio Ngumoha (17), whose exit in the 67th minute earned whistles from Arne Slot. Liverpool almost won, however, with Dominil Szoboszlai’s post (71st) and Virgil van Dijk’s crossbar (79th).
In the standings, Chelsea remain 9th and could fall further by the end of the weekend. Liverpool, for their part, will mainly wait until the last day against Brentford to celebrate Mohamed Salah’s last, still a little just to play this Saturday.
