As his departure from OM approaches, Mehdi Benatia could make one last attempt on the transfer market.

Olympique de Marseille is preparing to enter a new era. Between change of presidency with the arrival of Stéphane Richard to replace Pablo Longoria, new visual identity and upcoming recruitment of a sports director, the Marseille club is beginning a profound restructuring.

But certain issues remain burning, starting with the recorded departure of Mehdi Benatia at the end of the season. “Mehdi was ready to leave earlier… I can confirm that he will leave at the end of the season”explained Frank McCourt recently, thus formalizing the imminent end of his adventure in Marseille.

Behind the scenes, several profiles are already being studied to succeed him, in France and abroad. The name of Cristiano Giuntoli, who played for Napoli and Juventus, is circulating with insistence, proof of the club’s ambitions for this key position. The Italian is already in discussions with OM.

Benatia tries one last shot with Youssouf Fofana

But before turning the page, Benatia could well try one last stroke of brilliance. According to Tuttosportthe Marseille leader is closely interested in Youssouf Fofana, French international playing for AC Milan.

Less used since the arrival of Massimiliano Allegri, the midfielder could consider a departure, with a return to Ligue 1 in the back of his mind. An attractive but complex file for OM, particularly on a financial level. Estimated at around €25 million by Transfermarkt, Fofana represents a significant investment, all the more difficult to assume without qualifying for the Champions League. To be continued.
