After fourteen years of uninterrupted broadcast, beIN Sports lost the rights to the Spanish championship to DAZN and Disney+. Since the start of the season, the two platforms have each offered all 380 La Liga matches, until June 2029. A major change which can be explained in particular by the financial negotiations carried out in recent months. According to information from The TeamDAZN and Disney+ have agreed to each pay 11.5 million euros per season, for a total of 23 million euros annually. For its part, beIN Sports, which previously paid 32 million euros per year, hoped to obtain a significant reduction in the amount of rights. The Franco-Qatari broadcaster would have started discussions with a proposal of only 16 million euros, before revising its offer upwards, up to 20 million euros annually. A sum ultimately insufficient compared to the joint proposal of its two competitors.

This outcome can also be explained by the already solid relations between La Liga and its new broadcasters. DAZN notably owns part of the rights to the championship in Spain, which it shares with Movistar+, the two groups together spending a little more than a billion euros per year until 2032. The platform also broadcasts the competition in several European countries, including Germany, Italy, Portugal and Belgium, as well as in Japan. Disney+, for its part, has a presence in other international markets, notably in the United Kingdom, the United States and the Nordic countries. Partnerships which helped to reassure Javier Tebas and the leaders of La Liga, despite the difficulties encountered by DAZN during its stint as Ligue 1 broadcaster in France. For French supporters, this change will be particularly visible on Sunday evening, since the Clásico between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid will be broadcast simultaneously on DAZN and Disney+. A prestigious poster which will serve as a showcase for the two new rights holders of Spanish football.
