La Liga is preparing to take a major technological step to put an end to the refereeing controversies which pollute Spanish football. The president of La Liga, Javier Tebas, officially guaranteed this Monday that automatic offside will be deployed from next season in the first and second divisions. Speaking during a day on geopolitics and sport at Ceseden in Madrid, he confirmed the progress of the project: “it’s already in progress. It now depends on more technical issues, but it will be ready for next season, hopefully from day one.»
The real innovation of this device lies in the integration of a chip inside the ball, capable of detecting the precise moment of contact during a pass. Unlike the semi-automatic system used today, which still depends on the manual choice of the image by VAR referees, this new technology will cross the sensor data with the position of the players captured by specialized cameras. By automating this synchronization, La Liga hopes to remove misinterpretations from officials, thus providing an indisputable verdict on each disputed action.
