The file for the sale of the Parc des Princes has been on the table for a while now. The capital’s club wishes to buy the venue, which belongs to the City of Paris, but has regularly had to face a “no” from Anne Hidalgo’s Town Hall in recent years, pushing the management to prospect to find a place to build a brand new stadium. But the coming to power of Emmanuel Grégoire at the head of the city changes things – for the better – for the reigning European champion, since the new Parisian mayor is ready to sit down around a table to negotiate.
Some media mentioned an amount between 200 and 300 million euros to launch discussions between the two parties, with a Grégoire who will not have excessive expectations, he who is keen to maintain a good relationship with the club and above all, not to scare it away. Various aspects of the file such as the naming or development of the district, however, risk causing some friction. In an interview given to France Infothe socialist mayor said a little more.
A file settled at the latest this summer
“We have an emotional attachment to our club which is immense. We want him to stay in Paris. We want to create the conditions for it to stay, which is why, from a personal point of view, I said that I was in favor of the sale. I consider that it is not public money to pay for a professional football venue”he first indicated, adding that the debates will start during the exceptional Paris council which will be held in mid-April. “I want a mandate because it is not the mayor who decides, it is ultimately the Paris council”he added.
“I believe that we can put the money in many other more useful places. I said that the entire sale of PSG (Parc des Princes) would be allocated to the creation of new sports facilities and the creation of green spaces. We agreed with the PSG shareholder that we wanted to close the discussions by the end of the summer at the latest because we need to know how to set ambitious timetables”concluded Emmanuel Grégoire. See you this summer, when informal discussions with Nasser Al-Khelaïfi have already taken place.
