Mason Greenwood was De Zerbi’s best player at OM. Except that the Italian technician was perhaps too complimentary towards him at the time.

Less than two months after his departure from Olympique de Marseille, Roberto De Zerbi returned to the sidelines, that of Tottenham. Sunday, at 3 p.m., he will manage his first Spurs match, for the reception of Sunderland on the occasion of the 32nd day of the Premier League.

Some supporters of the English club were absolutely not in favor of his recruitment. Particularly those who are part of the LGBTQI+ association, Proud Lilywhites. In question, his comments made about Mason Greenwood when he was OM coach.

The Italian technician therefore had to justify himself on this subject.
“No, I wasn’t surprised, but a little disappointed, because I regret that anyone felt offended. I have always been against all forms of violence, especially against women. I have a daughter, this affects me personally”he explained at a press conference.

From Zerbi, old comments resurface

As a reminder, on January 30, 2022, Greenwood was accused of domestic violence and attempted rape by Harriet Robson, his partner. A trial was set for November of that year, but the charges were ultimately dropped.

Last November, Roberto De Zerbi defended the England international on this subject. “He’s a good person. He paid a high price for what happened.”he declared before OM’s Champions League phase match against Newcastle.
