When leaving Strasbourg at the beginning of January to join Chelsea, BlueCo’s flagship team, Liam Rosenior explained that he could not refuse such an opportunity. But by joining a major European team, the 41-year-old English technician discovered the main constraint that accompanies this choice: impatience. In office for only almost three months, Rosenior is already in the hot seat. A status which was further weakened after the rout against Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16 of the Champions League (2-5, 0-3).

Rosenior’s Blues are seriously worrying

Since then, Chelsea have suffered four defeats in a row and Liam Rosenior continues to sink. The Blues are sixth in the standings and are only six points from the top 4, but on the pitch, the image sent back by the London players is worrying, like the beating suffered at Everton (0-3). If Arne Slot was heckled at the start of the season, the Batavian was kept in his position because he had proven that he knew how to win the Premier League. On the other hand, England is starting to ask questions about the level of young Rosenior, promoted to head of Chelsea without having proven anything before.

“It’s been a tough month for Liam Rosenior at Chelsea. It’s been four games in a row that they’ve been soundly beaten. They can’t win a single match. There are different ways to lose a football match, and what we saw at Everton was really, really horrible to watch. I didn’t get the impression that the players were really on the same page as their coach. If Arne Slot had been fired from Liverpool this week, or Eddie Howe had left Newcastle, would former Strasbourg boss Liam Rosenior have landed one of those two jobs? I’ll even go further: would he have gotten an interview? This is madness. This Chelsea team is not at all unanimous among the supporters, who put Rosenior under pressure from the first day”confided the consultant of Sky SportsPaul Merson.

Lampard name resurfaces

More than ever questioned, Rosenior is even starting to see other consultants recommending to the Blues to fire the former RCSA coach despite his contract running until 2032 to install another coach. This is the case of former Manchester United glory, Nicky Butt. Interviewed in the podcast The Good, The Bad & The Footballthe former midfielder, now 51, believes that Frank Lampard could be recalled again after his two stints on the Bridge bench (2019-2021, then in 2023 as an interim).

“Do you think that if Frank Lampard manages to take Coventry up to the Premier League, the club could recall him? I think he took over too early the first time around, and as he was under a transfer ban he had to bring in a lot of young players. In my opinion, it would not be a bad idea to recall Frank Lampard at the helm of Chelsea. He did a great job at Coventry. He has a little more experience now and he probably made a few mistakes the first time. People need to understand that a transfer ban means you have to rely on a lot of young players, which must have been difficult for him. It would be a totally different coach today. I think Lampard would have an easier time working with better players, it would be easier for him to get his message across to more technical players. If Frank came back to Chelsea, with all the experience he has gained, I think he would do a fantastic job, I am convinced.. Lampard will appreciate it. Rosenior a little less.
