On January 18, Pape Gueye certainly moved into another category of player. Having continued to climb the ranks since the start of his career, the 27-year-old midfielder made the history of his country and even his continent that evening in Rabat. In a stormy CAN final against Morocco, the native of Montreuil delivered an entire nation with an exceptional strike after an impressive effort in overtime. Having become an icon of his country on this cannonball, the 27-year-old also sent a message to all those who had lost sight of him since Marseille: Pape Gueye has become an even more complete midfielder in Spain.

Author of a huge tournament with the Lions of Teranga, the player trained in Le Havre shines brightly in Villarreal. While he joined the Spanish club freely in the summer of 2024 after a contrasting end to his adventure on the Canebière, Gueye has become a reference in Spain. Valuable on both sides of the pitch, he quickly established himself as an irremovable starter in the eyes of Marcelino who had known him furtively in Bouches-du-Rhône. Endowed with physical qualities which clearly make the difference on the other side of the Pyrenees, Gueye has also progressed enormously technically and has even become one of the most prolific midfielders in Spain (3 goals in 19 matches) in a team which fights every year for the first four places.

Manchester United are fans of Pape Gueye

A stunning development for this player who has not always been appreciated for his talent. And even if the last few months are starting to slightly redress this injustice, the 27-year-old could finally have the recognition he deserves if he decides to join a more exclusive club. Cited in numerous rumors in recent weeks, Gueye ultimately stayed in Spain this winter. His coach had also declared his love for the player at a press conference: “He’s an important player. And his absence was cruelly felt during the CAN. His impact, his play, his qualities… Personally, I would be very surprised if he left during this transfer window. But it is a decision that concerns him and the club. It’s not up to the coach to decide, because he doesn’t make that kind of decision.”

And although he managed to get him to stay on the yellow submarine this winter, not sure that Marcelino can still work miracles for the coming summer. After a World Cup where he will have even more opportunity to show his talent with Senegal, Pape Gueye could clearly pack up. Under contract until 2028 with the Iberian club, Gueye arouses a lot of desire, including that of Manchester United according to our information. Clearly having the qualities to win in England, the reigning African champion is highly appreciated by the Red Devils who could make a very attractive offer this summer. Following the planned departure of Casemiro, Pape Gueye appears as an ideal replacement in the eyes of Mancunian management. So to be continued…
