Since Luis Enrique arrived at Paris Saint-Germain, the Spaniard has imposed an important characteristic on several of his players: knowing how to play in different positions. Ousmane Dembélé was placed back in number 9, the same for Kang-in Lee or Senny Mayulu. Finally, Warren Zaire-Emery and João Neves sometimes come to help out at the right-back position. And for Luis Enrique, this ability to evolve in different positions is a major asset for his flock.
“I never looked for that as a coach. I like players who are different from me. At the moment, and after having been a high-level coach for 15 years, we are looking ahead. The mobility and ability of players to play in different positions is important. Every time we have had injuries, there are players who can play in different positions in a positive way. It's very important for me as a coach in Paris, I was able to appreciate this quality in the majority of our players. (…) It’s important to pull players out of their comfort zone. When you have the mentality of being an important player for the team and you open your mind, it's so different and rewarding to know that you can help the team in any position. We are an example of a team that changes positions all the time during matches”confided the Spaniard at a press conference, on the eve of facing Lorient for the 10th day of Ligue 1.
