This weekend, the match between Naples and Inter Milan caused a lot of ink to flow in Italy. While the Partenopei won quite easily at home against an inferior Nerazzurri, the refereeing of the match was criticized on the other side of the Alps. In addition to some questionable decisions, a penalty whistled for Napoli provoked the ire of Inter.
An anger shared by the major authorities of Italian football. Indeed, as reported in the Gazzetta dello sport this Monday, referee Maurizio Mariani and his assistant should be suspended following their poor decisions during the Napoli–Inter match. According to the AIA (the body which judges arbitration in Italy, editor's note), the penalty should not have been awarded. An error which, as a reminder, allowed Naples to open the scoring in the 33rd minute of play.
