Jérôme Boateng is fixed. Retired since September after a final season in Linz, Austria, the 37-year-old former German international was to join the Bayern Munich staff for an observation internship under the direction of his former teammate Vincent Kompany. But this initiative was not well received by Bavarian supporters.
During the clash against Borussia Dortmund (2-1 victory), several banners denounced the presence of Boateng, due to his legal proceedings where he had been accused of assault on his ex-partner. An online petition has even collected almost 2,000 signatures, demanding that the former defender not be allowed to return to the club.
Bayern communicates
Bayern made the decision in a press release published this Saturday: “Following a constructive discussion this week, it was decided that Jérôme Boateng would not participate in an internship at FC Bayern. »
For his part, Boateng reacted on social networks: “Dear Bayern, dear Vincent, following recent discussions about myself, I have decided to focus on the license and other subjects that are close to my heart. You will be able to concentrate entirely on the field and on the goal of continuing this impressive streak of 13 consecutive victories. »
Between 2021 and 2024, Boateng was involved in a domestic violence case dating from 2018, with his ex-partner accusing him of physical and verbal assault during a vacation in the Caribbean. Sentenced to 1.8 million euros at first instance, the former defender saw this amount reduced to 1.2 million on appeal, before receiving a simple warning in 2024, for lack of sufficient evidence.
