Following FC Barcelona's last-minute victory against Girona, the three points were mandatory for Real Madrid (2nd) against Getafe (11th), at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, during this 9th day of La Liga. To regain 1st place, Xabi Alonso lined up a 4-2-3-1 with notably David Alaba, Eduardo Camavinga, Rodrygo and Kylian Mbappé, at 100% after leaving prematurely the last gathering of the French team. Vinícius Júnior and Arda Güler started on the bench, while Alexander-Arnold, Carvajal, Huijsen and Rüdiger – injured – were absent. On the local side, José Bordalas remained faithful to his defensive philosophy with a 5-3-2.

As expected, the Merengues had the ball (68% possession) and quickly created a first chance. Well shifted to the left side by Rodrygo, Mbappé went to challenge Soria, before coming up against the Spanish goalkeeper (8th). Mastantuono was also close to opening the score, but was finally narrowly caught by Djené (33rd). Tchouaméni did not find the solution either, on his long shot (37th). Getafe even almost surprised Real, with the recovery of Sancris, off target (39th). Alaba, for his part, tried his hand at a free kick, but saw his attempt rejected (45th).
Mbappé, the boss of Real Madrid
In the second half, Xabi Alonso brought Mastantuono off for Vinícius. The Brazilian tried to bring speed and provocation to his left side, but was especially the target of whistles from opposing supporters and Getafe players. And more particularly from Allan Nyom, who received a red card, a few seconds after coming into play for a dangerous gesture on the Real player (77th). Three minutes later, the Casa Blanca took advantage of this numerical superiority to open the scoring. Found between two Getafe defenders by Güler, Kylian Mbappé then adjusted Soria to score his 10th goal in nine league matches (80th, 0-1).
It was too much for Getafe and Sancris. Behind Vinicius, the center forward of Azulones collected a second yellow and left their partners at 9 against 11. But even in inferiority and without having offered much, Getafe could have snatched the point from the draw if Courtois had not deployed on Kamara's shot (90th + 7). THE Merengues therefore leave the Coliseum (0-1) with the three points, and regain the leadership of La Liga, one week before the Clasico against Barça. Before that, Real will face Juventus in the Champions League this Wednesday.
