On Saturday evening, Los Angeles FC was held to a draw (2-2) by the Colorado Rapids on the final day of the Major League Soccer (MLS) regular season. If this result did not prevent the Californians from retaining their third place in the Western Conference and getting their ticket to the playoffs, Hugo Lloris was at fault on one of the goals.

At the hour mark, with LA FC leading by a goal, the 38-year-old goalkeeper poorly controlled the ball before his restart. Rapids forward Paxten Aaronson immediately spotted the opportunity. Going up to press, the American took advantage of the slightest hesitation from the goalkeeper to rush into space.

Like a deja vu

Taken by surprise, Lloris tried a little touch to dribble past his opponent. The maneuver failed: the ball ricocheted off Aaronson and went straight to the back of the net (61st). Under the stunned gaze of his teammates, the LA FC captain grabbed his head with both hands, aware of the extent of his blunder.

The goalie will have the opportunity to make up for it during the playoffs. In the first round, Los Angeles FC will challenge Austin. This error is strangely reminiscent of the second goal conceded by the France team against Croatia, in the final of the 2018 World Cup (4-2), a bitter memory for the world champion.
