The winter transfer window is still far away, but it risks being hectic for Paris Saint-Germain in terms of arrivals but also departures.

Indeed, the capital club could part ways with some of its elements who do not have much playing time at the start of the year. According to information from the newspaper l'Équipe, Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov is looking for a way out for this winter.

The Russian international would be disappointed with his playing time and did not expect to go two months without playing a single minute with PSG. The former Krasnodar goalkeeper thought that the Italian's departure and the signing of Lucas Chevalier would allow him to make the match “more easily” and find himself more regularly in Luis Enrique's starting lineup.

The first two months of competition in 2025-2026 prove his analysis wrong. Safonov did not play a single minute with PSG. A frustrating situation for the Russian international (16 caps).

Privately, the player, under contract until 2029, no longer hides his thoughts about his future. While he explained again this summer that he wanted to stay in Paris to fight and did not want to give up, leaving was then considered a sign of “weakness” in the face of a complicated context. The discourse evolved in the face of non-existent playing time.

Towards a return to Russia?

What will be the future of Matvey Safonov? Will he finish the season in the French capital or find a new challenge during the second part of the season? According to the latest reports, the trend is towards a departure and perhaps a return to Russia.

All clubs in Russia would be open to taking him on loan as he is considered the best Russian goalkeeper. But I think it's impossible. Here, all the fans are behind Safonov and hope the best for him. We really think he will become the first choice at Paris-Saint-Germain,” explained Michele Antonov, journalist for Sport-Express.
