A well-known name in the stands of the Vélodrome had strong words about his time at Olympique de Marseille.

He symbolized the shift towards a new policy focused on promising young people, alongside Peter Luccin, but he did not meet expectations. More than 20 years after his time atMarseille OlympicStéphane Dalmat harbors regrets.

Presented as one of the greatest hopes of French football in his early days, the talented midfielder ultimately had a career marked by numerous club changes. In an interview with Jérôme Rothen on RMC, Dalmat revealed his truths.

“I didn’t go to a training center. I was not formatted (sic), I was immediately presented with a fait accompli”he explained. “I've had a lot of transfers in the space of four years. When you change clubs every year, you have no stability. When I left Inter, I was in a bit of a hole and I moved on to other clubs, like Toulouse, Tottenham, Bordeaux… I didn't have continuity, I also didn't have the entourage or the right people at that time to advise me well and tell me to take my time, not to go too quickly, especially when I was at Lens. »

Dalmat would have liked to stay in Lens

Revealed in Ligue 1 under the colors of Racing Club de Lens, Stéphane Dalmat regrets his rapid signing for Olympique de Marseille. “I would have liked to have been told to stay in Lens for a second season to confirm, rather than making a big transfer to Marseille,” he continued.

The former midfielder, however, admits to having been seduced by the attractiveness of the club. “But hey, after that, who refuses Marseille? When you're 19, at the time it was 70 million francs, the French record, it's hard to refuse. Especially when you were little, Marseille was the people's club, it was always OM, even if PSG was also a dream. Olympique de Marseille was something. »
