Ciao San Siro. It has been several years since the future of the largest stadium in Italy was questioned. Between the dilapidation of the place, incessant administrative procedures and an increased need to increase the revenues from club presidencies, only a few years left at AC Milan and Inter. Because unfortunately for the followers of Giuseppe-Meazza (75,800 seats), a CAP has just passed.
The two clubs indeed obtained, last night, the approval from the Milan municipal council in order to be able to buy their shared enclosure up to 197 million euros. Once the acquisition is made, the objective is simple. It will be a question of destroying San Siro and building a whole new stadium, in the parking lot of the old, with a capacity of 71,500 places by 2031. The cost for the two rivals? 1.2 billion euros.
Nothing is yet official, but everything suggests that this operation is in very good way. For AC Milan and Inter, it will still be necessary to pass the courts to ensure the sale and assert their new project on November 10.
San Siro destroys, and after?
In an article published by the Gazzetta dello Sportjournalist Luca Bianchin specifies some details concerning this crazy project. Especially about November 10. The two Milanese teams therefore have until this date to finalize the sale. In which case the clubs will not be able to go to the next steps and
“San Siro can no longer be demolished. »»
Subsequently, two architectural firms, Manica and Foster + Partners, will take care of the design of the new stadium during the coming year. The work will not start until the beginning of 2027, and the inauguration would be expected around 2031. A strategic date, just one year from Euro 2032 co -organized by Italy and Turkey. Then comes the demolition of the mythical stadium, one of the stands classified as a historic monument will be integrated into a real estate project.
