The (skinny) suspense is lifted. As expected for several months, Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed, Thursday, to run for the town hall of Lyon in a letter distributed in no less than 100,000 mailboxes from the Rhodanian city.

“It is to you, Lyonnaises and Lyonnais, that I present my candidacy to become mayor of our city”, He wrote before revealing the name of his movement: “heart of Lyon” and revealing his priorities: “housing”, “security”, “mobility”, “solidarity”, and “quality of life in our neighborhoods”.

The announcement of this candidacy is obviously not a surprise. At the beginning of the month, flanked by Laurent Wauquiez and Pierre Oliver, the mayor (LR) of the 2nd arrondissement, he explained to be in the “starting blocks” to “transform things”.

In addition to the support of LR, Jean-Michel Aulas will also be able to count on that of the Renaissance party. “We decided to join the gathering dynamic initiated by Jean-Michel Aulas, with Thomas Rudigoz”said Gabriel Attal. And the same is true of the Union of Democrats and Independent (UDI) and the Horizons party of former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe.

In a survey published at the start of the summer, Jean-Michel Aulas, who will hold his first meeting this Friday, was already credited with 36% of voting intentions, nine points more than Grégory Doucet, the outgoing mayor.
