Lionel Messi was defended by Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano, after missing a penalty against Charlotte.

While he was offered a golden opportunity to open the scoring in the last Herons match in MLS, their emblematic captain saw an attempt by Panenka missed easily pushed by Kristijan Kahlina, who was barely moved to make a remarkable stop.

There were 32 minutes to play when Inter Miami obtained a penalty in Charlotte. Messi, octuple golden ball, took matters into hand and is usually the most reliable player to contain his cool 12 meters.

The Argentinian world champion has however managed to focus a shy strike in the center of the field. Kahlina clearly understood the intentions of the Argentinian and decided not to dive. Rather, he advanced on his right and sent the ball into the air, before seeing him fall back into his arms.

Messi is not immune to criticism

Messi was criticized for his dubious penalty technique, his panenkas being always catastrophic when they are not made. However, he will not be questioned by his teammates in Florida in the South.

What Mascherano said about the panenka

His coach Javier Mascherano thus told journalists: ”
If there is one thing on which one cannot be unfair, criticizing or criticizing, it is the penalty. These are game situations. Clearly, if there is someone who helped us win all season, it's Leo. He had this unfortunate action. »»
