The success of the French team against Ukraine (2-0) this Friday, during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, was tarnished by two bad news. The two stars of Paris Saint-Germain, Ousmane Dembélé and Désiré Doué, had to leave their partners on injury.
Upon returning from the locker room, the 2018 world champion entered the game to replace his young teammate, affected by a calf. But half an hour later, he was the number 7 of the Blues, who was forced to abandon the lawn, victim of an ischios alert. Between the two hard blows, it is obviously the case of Dembélé which arouses the most tension, especially on the side of the club of the capital. The versatile right winger just returned from an injury contracted a week earlier against Toulouse (6-3) in Ligue 1.
“Dembélé wants to play”
Inevitably, the management of Dembélé by Didier Deschamps is pointed out. The coach can however rely on unexpected support, that of Pascal Dupraz, who also returns a share of responsibility to the player himself.
“There must have been a discussion between Deschamps and Dembélé. Certainly he told him that everything was fine. It's up to the player to say if it doesn't go too. Unfortunately, injuries happens in football. (…) Ousmane Dembélé wants to play, and that's normal. He targets the Ballon d'Or, he wants to be a star of this French team ”commented the former Stade Brestois striker.
