Defeated nine times in the Premier League last season (and five times in the Champions League), Manchester City fell from its first outing at Etihad Stadium, Saturday noon, during the shock of the second day against Tottenham (0-2). Pep Guardiola launched Rayan Cherki in the starting eleven but the French international, author of a superb goal last Sunday against Wolverhampton (0-4).
It went badly for the prodigy trained at OL for his first in front of the Mancunian audience. Relayer right in the defensive phase and number 10 in the offensive phase, Cherki failed to stand out by winning or being found in support of Erling Haaland. Tijani Reijnders, he also had much less crowd after his excellent beginnings against the Wolves.
Unable to undermine the Spurs, the Cityzens have completely cracked defensively. Richarlison escaped on the right, bordering on offside, to offer the balloon of the score to Brennan Johnson (35th). Ten minutes later, just before half-time, James Trafford, the new Mancunian number 1, tried a too risky pass in front of his goal. Joao Palhinha marked in force (45th+2).
Rayan Cherki quickly replaced
Guardiola cut out very quickly by leaving Cherki and Omar Marmoush in the 54th minute. The Egyptian striker, placed on the left, missed several opportunities during the first period. Bernardo Silva and Jérémy Doku then Rodri and Phil Foden (75th) did not give a second breath to the residents of Etihad Stadium.
Man City will go to Brighton next weekend, while Tottenham, leader before the sequel of the 2nd day, will try the pass of three against Bournemouth in his lair. Wilson Odobert came into play (78th) and Mathys Tel remained on the bench.
