Canal+ seemed ready to relaunch the distribution of Ligue 1+ from the second day of the French championship. A surprise, when on June 28, its president Maxime Saada announced in
The team that he “Abandoned” Any negotiation with the League for this channel.

“For the moment, the conditions are not met”he explained at the time, evoking the key question of distribution. A non-exclusive offer remained possible, but the discussions seemed to be dead despite the positive reception of the market for Ligue 1+. A position that has changed in the meantime.

Still according to The teamCanal+ and LFP Media have intensified negotiations over the past ten days. The encrypted chain had imagined an attractive offer for its subscribers: € 9.99 per month for three months, then € 12.99, identical to the price offered by Amazon Prime Video. A hundred people had been mobilized to join the channel on the Canal+platform, and a trailer had even been recorded.

A compromise deal

But the project capped on a crucial point: the judicial litigation between Canal+ and the league, long set aside, was handed over to the table. The dispute dates back to the resale of Mediapp for Amazon, which Canal+ judge prejudicial for its financial interests. Tavernost asked Saada that the chain renounces its prosecution to finalize the agreement. Canal+ refused, always demanding compensation for the damage, whether by justice or an amicable arrangement. The contract was therefore not signed.

Monday, Nicolas de Tavernost greeted the “Exceptional launch” of Ligue 1+, already followed by “More than 600,000 subscribers”. He still wanted to see Canal+ distribute the chain. But after this new obstacle, the dialogue seems to be broken again, and this time perhaps definitively.
