Coach of the French winner team of Euro 2000, Roger Lemerre concluded his coach career in 2022 at the Etoile du Sahel, at 81 years old. He had been claiming the rest of his salary for three years.

Aged 84, Roger Lemerre saw a peaceful retirement. Aimé Jacquet's deputy during the 1998 World Cup won by the French team and then coach of the Blues during the coronation at Euro 2000 only hung up in March 2022. The experienced technician came to lend a helping in the Etoile du Sahel twice, in December 2018 and in November 2021, to leave the club of Sousse four months later.

Lemerre has a sacred popularity rating in Tunisia, this is the case to say. After a first transition to the Hope of Tunis in 1983-1984, before even becoming the head of the French military team and joining the staff of Aimé Jacquet, the former central defender led the Carthage Eagles from 2002 to 2008 and won the African Cup of Nations in 2004!

He then took the reins of the selection of Morocco, as well as Ankaragücü, the CS Concretine and Sedan, his lifelong club, in 2016, before returning to Tunisian lands. But the end of the story was painful. Quickly ejected from the sidelines of the Etoile du Sahel, Roger Lemerre received no dismissal compensation for three years.

Lemerre claimed 64,000 euros

Lemerre had at the time seized the dispute committee of the Tunisian Football Federation to claim the payment of 200,000 dinars (around 64,000 euros), the rest of the salary not received. The Tunisian Federation had not managed to settle the conflict and the case was brought to FIFA. We finally hold the outcome …

The Sports Star of the Sahel has been prohibited from Recruitment by FIFA! After the election of a new steering committee (with Zoubeïr Baya at the helm), the Sousse club finally settled the dispute against Lemerre. The international body confirmed it a few days ago, while the Sahel, a 3rd arrival of the LP1 behind the Hope of Tunis and the US Monastir, hopes to make a big summer transfer window.
