The common history between Paris Saint-Germain and certain early talents has often been written in precipitation. And some names, passed without leaving a trace, end up re -emerging far from the park. This is the case of this Portuguese striker, formerly recruited at gold prices by Parisian leaders, who has just found refuge in a championship that he knows well: La Liga.
Gonçalo Guedes: The PSG flop relaunched in Liga
It is now official: Gonçalo Guedes signed up with Real Sociedad until 2028. The Basque club paid 4 million euros, plus 2 million bonuses, to convince Wolverhampton to let it go. At 28, the former hope of Benfica, passed briefly by Paris between 2017 and 2018, will try a recovery in a less exposed environment. This transfer also marks his return to Spain, he who had shone in Valence a few years earlier.
Recruited for nearly 30 million euros by PSG, Guedes will only have played 13 games under Parisian colors. Neither his profile nor his positioning had convinced at the time. Quickly pushed towards the exit, he was loaned and then sold definitively in Valence, where his more direct style had better found his place. But the rest, between injuries and irregularity, never allowed Portuguese international to regain real continuity.
A low cost bet for Real Sociedad
The choice of Real Sociedad is like a reasoned bet. For a club qualified in Europe and follower of a game in rapid transition, Guedes can bring percussion. He still has to find his legs and confidence, put to the test in recent months in the Premier League. His visit to the Wolves was mainly marked by chronic instability, with few tenure and several consecutive loans.
At a time when PSG is harvesting the fruits of a deeply revised strategy – younger, more coherent, and much less dependent on the stars of the foreigners -, certain episodes of the past recall that this success has been built on lessons learned sometimes. The Guedes case, like others before him, embodies this time when Paris accumulated risky bets without always mastering their integration. A useful reminder, when the club has just achieved a historic hat -trick with a policy finally aligned with its sports ambitions.
