Liverpool will never forget it. Since the tragic disappearance of Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva two weeks ago, the Reds have multiplied tributes to celebrate the memory of the Portuguese striker, disappeared at only 28 years old. The emotion is always lively within the club and among the supporters, who remember the player's emotion, both for his talent and for his dedication.
Beyond the bouquets of flowers and the jerseys placed in front of Anfield, Liverpool took strong measures to immortalize JOTA. Among them, an unprecedented symbolic gesture on the club's official website: while players are usually listed by post, Diogo Jota is in a unique category entitled “Forever” (“forever”), testifying to its unique place in the history of the club.
The club had also decided to permanently withdraw number 20, carried by JOTA, so that no other player could wear it in the future. Still as a sign of support, Liverpool has committed to paying the player's family to the last two years of his contract, an amount estimated at around 15 million euros.
Inducted at the Hall of Fame
A few steps from Anfield, a wall fresco representing Jota forming a heart with his hands, an emblematic gesture of the player, was inaugurated. The artist John Cullshaw, author of the work, explains:
“I chose this image because it symbolizes the love that Diogo had to our supporters. By immortalizing it in our city, we give it back this love. »»
His former club, Wolverhampton, also honored his memory by announcing the enthronement of the player at the Hall of Fame. Matt Wild, director of Wolves football, said: “His heritage here is engraved in our history. »» The Wolves even plan to honor Jota and his brother in the next two home games, including the reception of Manchester City on August 16.
