Audiences for this 2023 World Cup are currently satisfactory in France, even if they are still very far from the scores of the previous edition.

The group stages of the Women’s World Cup, which takes place in Australia and New Zealand, ended last Thursday. The round of 16 started on Saturday. The first audience figures for this event have fallen and are generally satisfactory despite the time difference and programming in the middle of summer.

Co-released by the band France Televisions and the group M6, this World Cup 2023 does indeed interest the French. According to Médiamétrie, the matches of French players attracted an average of 3.89 million viewers on these two channels, or 32.9% of the average audience share. Unsurprisingly, it was the match against Brazil, the second in the pool of Hervé Renard’s proteges, which was the most followed, with 4.3 million followers on France 2. These audiences are therefore relatively good even if they remain more than twice lower than the previous edition. In 2019, TF1 had an average of 9.3 million viewers for a 41.2% audience share in the group stages.

Tuesday, Les Bleues will face Morocco in the round of 16 of this 2023 World Cup, at 13h. The audience record for the pool match against Brazil will most likely be broken. Regarding the attendance in the stadiums, more than 1.3 million spectators have been counted, while the round of 16 is not yet finished.
