A meeting between Lionel Messi and Barcelona during the Club World Cup in June is unlikely, FIFA not having invited the Catalans.

Barcelona and Lionel Messi will have to postpone their reunion projects, because Marca reports that FIFA has not invited Spanish heavy goods vehicles after the exclusion of the Mexican club Leon club for the violation of multi-club property rules.

The participating European teams have been selected on the basis of their performance in Europe since 2021, excluding their results from the current season, as well as the cumulative coefficient of the previous three seasons.

The world ruling body did not invite Barça, given its elimination of the Champions League group phases during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons and its poor results in the Europa League.

Fate for Messi

Leon was excluded from the Club World Cup due to certain shares common with Pachuca, another Liga MX club, which will also participate in the tournament. The date of the hearing was set for May 6, the Sports Arbitral Tribunal (CAS) accepted Leon's appeal against FIFA's decision.

However, FIFA president Gianni Infantino has already confirmed that the place left vacant following Leon's expulsion would be played by the American club and Los Angeles FC during a single dam match.

No official date has been set for the dam match between the two clubs. Leon's final hearing is scheduled for May 6, while the Club World Cup will start on June 14.
