Manchester City is currently experiencing an (almost) endless fall. Accustomed to monopolizing the leading roles for several seasons, Pep Guardiola’s team has a series of disappointments and setbacks throughout the competitions. Deprived of several injured players, the Skyblues coach spoke on Friday of the weekend’s shock against Manchester United. And he called on a certain Michael Jordan.

Already completely left behind by Liverpool in the race for the Premier League title, Manchester City will try to do well against their best enemy Mancunian, during the derby scheduled for Sunday (5:30 p.m.), as part of the sixteenth day of the championship. But without some of his best assets, Pep Guardiola is preparing for a complicated duel. He notably mentioned the long-term absence of Rodri.

Pep Guardiola still has cartridges

“We are playing without the Ballon d’Or and without the man who was the best player in England last season. How many rings have the Bulls won without Michael Jordan? No team can play without central defenders, without the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner and without the best player of the season. » Excuses which, however, cannot hide a larger problem.

Because Manchester City still has some great operational players. From Erling Haaland to Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and even Josko Gvardiol and Ederson, everyone should be able to offer much better. But several players are not at their best and Pep Guardiola will have to find a solution to get his team back on track. It won’t necessarily be easy against Manchester United who hope to take advantage of the opponent’s bad period to push them a little further.
