It is a competition as controversial as it is profitable: the Club World Cup will take place for the first time in its history in 2025. From June 15 to July 13, 32 teams will participate in this unique tournament organized in a very particular format.
If the birth of this competition has generated multiple controversies given the infernal pace imposed on footballers, the major clubs in Europe will remain eagerly awaited in this tournament. Because they will also confront what is best on other continents.
Only one French representative will take part in this first edition of the Club World Cup. Unsurprisingly, this is the Paris Saint-Germain. A presence which logically follows from the status of the capital club, regularly present in Champions League knockout matches.
While the draw for this first edition took place this Thursday in Miami, Paris Saint-Germain is now focused on its opponents: they will be Atlético de Madrid, the Seattle Sounders and Botafogo, club owned by John Textor, who is also the owner of OL.
By crossing paths with Atlético again, Luis Enrique and his men, placed in group B, will certainly be keen to take their revenge against an opponent who was their tormentor in the Champions League this fall. The rest of the calendar seems more affordable for the French champions.
