Quite a disappointment for Real Madrid and Brazil. As the Spanish capital and the South American country prepared to celebrate Vinicius Jr’s 2024 Ballon d’Or, it was ultimately Rodri who was crowned. Especially rewarded for his beautiful Euro 2024 with the Spanish selection, the Manchester City midfielder “stole” a title which was promised to the Canarinha star.
And suffice to say that in Barcelona, we have a good laugh. In addition to having won the Women’s Ballon d’Or with Aitana Bonmati and the Kopa Trophy with Lamine Yamal, this disappointment of Vinicius Jr and Real Madrid also pleased the pro-Barça, barely 48 hours after the heavy humiliation inflicted to the Madrilenians during the Clasico.
A second “victory” for Barça after the Clasico
“Rodri, Ballon d’Or 2024 totally justified”writes for example the newspaper Sport to taunt the critics of Madrilenians who cry scandal. “The image of Real Madrid is clearly affected”explains the media in another article, in relation to the boycott of the ceremony by the club in the Spanish capital. In another paper, the media indicates that “Rodri is a fair winner, as Vinicius would have been if his behavior was exemplary”. And it doesn’t stop there, since we can also read a comparison with… Messi. “Lionel Messi taught a lesson that Vinicius did not learn”in relation to the fact that the Argentinian still went to the ceremony even when he lost.
On its front page, Mundo Deportivo title : “another humiliation”with photos of Rodri, Aitana Bonmati and Lamine Yamal, clearly suggesting that Barça is the winner of this Ballon d’Or, after having already ridiculed the Madrilenians during the Clasico. “Lamine and Aitana are the leaders of the culé party in Paris and Rodri writes history in the face of the Real Madrid fiasco”adds the media. “Another cruel defeat for Real Madrid. Barça has swept aside its great rival again, this time off the pitch”we read in another article in the newspaper. You will have understood, it’s a day of celebration in Barcelona!
