The Thuram family is in the spotlight this Sunday (5 p.m.) in Serie A, as French internationals Marcus and Khéphren face each other during the Derby d’Italia between Inter and Juventus. A clash at the top between the Nerazzurri, runners-up to Napoli, and the Bianconeri, third in the standings with one point less. Their father Lilian Thuram will follow the match closely (he will perhaps be Giuseppe Meazza).

If the 98 world champion had celebrated the Interists’ scudetto with Marcus last May, even putting on a jersey of his eldest son, he still supports Juventus, where Khéphren signed last summer. “My father will support my little brother and Juve, he is a former Juventus player, he remains a Juventino”assured Marcus Thuram in the Gazzetta dello sport. Legendary defender, Lilian was a four-time Italian champion with Juve and failed in the Champions League final in 2003 (defeat on penalties against AC Milan).

The two titular Thurams?

The Thuram brothers will not make an appearance during this meeting. Marcus, who has formed Inter’s attacking duo with Lautaro Martinez since last season, has four goals and one assist in his last four matches for the Italian champions. Kephren, for his part, is coming off three consecutive starts (two in Serie A, one in the Champions League), even if Thiago Motta could also associate Manuel Locatelli and Weston McKennie in the midfield, with Nicolo Fagioli in 10.

Marcus and Khéphren Thuram have already faced each other on the pitch, during a Coupe de la Ligue semi-final between En Avant Guingamp and AS Monaco in 2019. The Costarmoricans qualified on penalties against the Monegasques (2-2; 5-4). Marcus Thuram started on the Guingamp left wing and missed his team’s 5th penalty. Khéphren, who was still 17 years old, came on in the 80th minute for ASM.
