Liverpool held on against Chelsea to win 2-1 at Anfield on Sunday to stay ahead of Manchester City. One week before a perhaps decisive weekend.

Even if the season is still very long, the race for the Premier League title could change for the first time next week… The resumption of the English championship, with its 8th day, saw one of the leading teams fall: Arsenal lost for the first time this season on the Bournemouth pitch (2-0), at 10 against 11 after an exclusion from William Saliba. Liverpool and Manchester City came away with narrow victories.

After the success of the Cityzens snatched from Wolverhampton (1-2), earlier this Sunday afternoon, the Reds won the shock of the weekend against Chelsea (2-1), at Anfield, to get back in front of the formation of Pep Guardiola with one more point. But the Liverpuldiens will continue with a new shock at the top against Arsenal next Sunday at the Emirates Stadium! When the reigning champion hosts the penultimate Southampton…

A great Premier League shock at Anfield

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring from the penalty spot (29th) after a foul on Diogo Jota, then the match offered a spectacular sequence at the start of the second half. Nicolas Jackson first equalized for the Blues (48th). An offside was signaled on the Senegalese striker’s goal but Ibrahima Konaté had covered Jackson and the VAR validated the achievement.

In the wake of London’s equalizer, Curtis Jones pulled away to beat Robert Sanchez (51st). Cole Palmer, starter Christopher Nkunku and others failed to score on their late-match opportunities. Chelsea are beaten for the second time and remain stuck in sixth position, overtaken by Aston Villa and Brighton.
