OL struck a major blow in the summer transfer window, by grabbing a renowned striker.

OL still works just as well during the transfer window. After having worked miracles last season while the club was on the edge of the abyss, threatened with administrative demotion to Ligue 2 by the National Directorate of Management Control (DNCG), the Lyon management has again achieved a small miracle these days.

After having obtained the loan for six months of the Brazilian crack from Real Madrid Endrick during the previous financial year – for an appreciable record of 8 goals and 8 assists in 21 matches – the Gones managed this time to convince Juventus to give up one of their scorers: Loïs Openda.

To do this, a loan compensation of 3 million euros was still granted. The stroke of genius of the Rhone staff resulted in the negotiation of the payment of the majority of the player’s salary by the Bianconeri. In Turin, the 26-year-old Belgian striker earns 8 million euros per year – beyond the reach of a Ligue 1 club, except PSG.

Already five recruits at OL

If the former Lensois quickly came to an agreement with OL regarding the contours of his new contract, Juve was more difficult to persuade – the Old Lady having counted for a time on the gargantuan appetite of English clubs to exfiltrate his striker lacking inspiration (2 goals in 34 matches in all competitions in the black and white jersey).

Openda insisted on joining the Lyon project and the possibility of playing the Champions League (which is not yet guaranteed) under Fonseca’s orders », specifies L’Equipe this Saturday. The Red Devil with 33 caps (for 3 goals) thus becomes the fifth summer recruit already from Olympique Lyonnais, after Kail Boudache, Mads Bitstrup, Julien Duranville and Mohamed Ouedraogo.
