Initially convicted in the case of psychological violence between him and his wife, Wissam Ben Yedder was acquitted on appeal this Wednesday.

Former figure of AS Monaco, Wissam Ben Yedder today has a lot to do on the side of justice. Implicated in several cases, the French international, now aged thirty-five, learned some good news on Wednesday. Convicted at first instance in the case of psychological violence against his wife, he was acquitted on appeal.

During the first judgment, he was sentenced to a fine of 90,000 euros by the Nice Criminal Court. This time, it was the Aix-en-Provence public prosecutor’s office which was handling the case, and as the latter confirmed to L’Équipe, Wissam Ben Yedder was released.

As a reminder, the footballer was suspected of having
“voluntarily committed psychological violence” against his wife between March 2023 and February 2024. It was the Nice prosecutor’s office which opted to reopen the case even though the complaint from his partner (from whom he is in the process of divorcing) had initially been closed.

Wissam Ben Yedder still in court

According to a source cited by the sports media, the magistrates notably affirmed that the complainant “says something ‘who lack spontaneity’in conversations she knowingly recorded”. In other words, the latter would, according to the magistrates, try to make Wissam Ben Yedder say things “to compromise one’s spouse”.

The one who scored three career goals with the France team, however, is not done with justice. On June 10, he will be tried on appeal for sexual assault. At first instance, he received a two-year suspended prison sentence.
