The Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal was co-broadcast by M6 and Canal+. According to figures from MĂ©diamĂ©trie published this Sunday morning, nearly 9.1 million viewers watched the new European coronation of Luis Enrique’s men.
In detail, 6.2 million watched it unencrypted on M6. 2.9 million had opted for Canal+ or Canal+ Foot. A peak of 10.4 million at the end of the match was observed, when Gabriel failed in the fateful penalty shootout.
Figures which represent 36.1% of the public, 37.8% of women responsible for purchasing and 47.3% of 25-49 year olds, between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Last year, at the same time, PSG’s big victory against Inter Milan (5-0) attracted an average of 11.52 million viewers.
PSG-Arsenal, an audience score lower than PSG-Inter
For comparison, on May 26, 1993, the C1 final between OM and AC Milan attracted just over 15.2 million people on TF1. Broadcast on a Wednesday evening at the time, it corresponded to a market share of 62.6%.
Scores which do not necessarily mean that “OM of the great era” was more popular than PSG in the middle of the current decade. Nowadays, with the sharing of TV and Internet rights, the figures are more fragmented.
